The important thing about trendy dramas is that it must deliver a fun and entertaining journey. ![]() Loco, Yoo Joo (Girlfriend) – 우연히 봄 (By Chance, Spring) ĭespite my prejudice over the (terrible, horrible) title, I did enjoy the characters enough to overlook the many plot holes. In line with Shin Se Kyung’s character, the special effects were cute and bubbly and does a good job in illustrating her abilities. While it does sound similar to many of the other Wed/Thur night trendies, case in point, You’re All Surrounded, the songs were so catchy that I still find myself singing the songs even now. She reacts more over dangerous situations she’s faced during the minor cases than she does over the Bar Code serial killer. I understand that she’s a tenacious character but it wouldn’t have hurt to have a moment of reflection about the situation. She seems gung-ho about becoming the bait in order to capture him. I suppose you could argue that it’s just the serial killer’s OCD way of cataloging his victim and maintaining control but I was honestly hoping for something more.Īlso, when Cho Rim discovers who the killer is, there’s really no surprise or fear over how close the killer has been all this time. The meaning of the bar codes is explained in the drama but it’s not clear why he chose the method of exploiting bar codes in this way. I am still not sure what the significance of the bar code is to the killer himself. It’s laughable to see Moo Gak facing off with the killer several times but unable to do anything about it. We expect that the serial killer is always going to be one step ahead of our characters but when everyone on the police force suspects the same person and yet they’re still not able to figure out a way to catch him. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment of the drama is the plot holes. She’s quite a dry character and at times drags down the airiness of the drama. However, Yoon Jin Seo’s Chief Detective Yeom brings down the levity of the group. The personalities of the other members of the police force enhance the comedy of the group’s dynamic. It wasn’t until the revelation of his condition that put the pieces together.Įach week, the group tackles new cases as a secondary storyline while furthering the investigation of the Bar Code murder case. While this is the first drama I’ve seen with him, I’ve seen what he’s capable of on We Got Married so I found his awkward and distracted performance puzzling. On the other hand, I was a little taken aback by Nam Goong Min’s performance in the first half of the drama. Joo Bi (Sunny Hill), Jang Yi Jung (History) – 아리송해 (It’s Ambiguous) Moo Gak is actually quite a doofus more than he is unfeeling. However, instead of playing a heartless type of character, he plays Moo Gak as someone who just doesn’t know how to react or emote. As for Park Yoo Chun, Choi Moo Gak is initially described as cold which is an overused stereotype of male K-Drama characters. Oh Cho Rim has a fun, effervescent personality and I like that Shin Se Kyung could come off as being ridiculous and sweet. They are the main reason that seemed to keep viewers coming back week after week. As you would expect with a trendy drama, the scenes featuring their relationship was cute and silly. The real highlight of this drama is the chemistry between Park Yoo Chun and Shin Se Kyung. It wasn’t until I randomly caught Episode 8 that I decided to put it on my watch list and caught up to all of the episodes within a week. I had a lot of other shows on my plate and I was put off by the drama’s title. I have to admit that I was hesitant to watch this drama at first. ![]() Although she loses her memory of the killer, she gains the ability to see smells. Meanwhile, Oh Cho Rim (Shin Se Kyung) narrowly escapes form the serial killer herself. Three years ago, Choi Moo Gak (Park Yoo Chun) loses his younger sister to the Bar Code serial killer.
